Catholic Community Services (CCS) hosted its 11th annual “Operation Bundle Up” event providing cold-weather essentials to families struggling to obtain essential cold weather clothing prior to the upcoming winter season. Over 800 people joined CCS for the community giveaway.
CCS staff and volunteers distributed winter coats, hats, gloves, and a variety of other cold-weather essentials to individuals and families facing obstacles to obtaining winter necessities. In addition, over 70 pounds of food and 400 toys were given away at the event.
CCS was also joined by members of the Philadelphia Police Department, the Philadelphia Fire Department, American Heritage Credit Union, and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
The event included prizes, face painting, refreshments, and a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Approximately 20 vendors were in attendance to help connect families to various resources. In addition, CCS hosted a “free market” table containing a limited number of baby clothing items and school supplies.
Operated by Catholic Social Services, CCS is the Community Umbrella Agency (CUA #4) designated by the Philadelphia Department of Human Services (DHS) to serve dependent children and families in the Greater Northeast section of Philadelphia. CCS CUA #4 is a legally independent community program that functions under the advocacy of the Youth Services Division of CSS and provides Community Engagement, Prevention Services, and Case Management Services formerly maintained by DHS.
