Afghan Placement and Assistance Program

  • Welcoming Committee – From greeting families when they arrive at the airport to providing an Afghani traditional welcome meal to furnishing a room in their new home.
  • Hosting a Family – Consider opening your heart and your home by temporarily hosting a family from Afghanistan.
  • Volunteer Translator and Interpreter – Help in interpreting and translating for those whose first language is something other than English.
  • ESL Classes– Assist with teaching and understanding the English language.
  • Accompaniment – Volunteer a few hours per week by providing transportation/accompaniment as needed for families unable to drive and are unfamiliar with their new city to medical appointments, job interviews, and food shopping.

Immigration Legal Services:

  • Citizenship Tutor – Assist by helping clients prepare for their test to become a US Citizen
  • Intake Line Volunteer – Volunteer to answer intake line for Immigration-related matters Monday- Wednesday between 9:00-1:00 pm
  • Legal Research Volunteer – Help to research country conditions for asylum applicants.
  • Volunteer Interpreter – Use your bilingual skills to interpret for our clients on the phone or at a USCIS interview

Women of Hope – Lombard:

  • Daytime Meals Assistant – Help by packing and distributing lunch to day guests.Host a monthly special luncheon for residents and day guests.
  • Daytime Showers Assistant – Assist day guests with obtaining a shower and change of clothes.
  • Donations Assistant – Help by cataloging and distributing items such as feminine hygiene products and winter wear to those women in need in Philadelphia.

Casa del Carmen Pre-School Academy:

  • Classroom Helper – Help teachers throughout the year by coordinating wish lists for each classroom or sponsoring a classroom to help with its individual needs. Assist teachers in the classroom with daily activities.

St. John’s Hospice

  • Meal Prep Assistant – Assist with serving meals for our Day Services Program from 11:30-1:30 or from 4:00-6:00 (M, W, F).
  • Donations Coordinator – Help sort and distribute mail and toiletries to more than 900 registered men.
  • Holiday Help – Assist with sorting gifts and donations during the holidays and provide transportation as needed.

Casa del Carmen

  • Food Pantry Assistant– (Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) – help with packing food bags, organizing and stocking shelves in our choice pantry.
  • Data Entry Assistant – (clerical, any time Monday through Friday): assist staff by entering inquiry data into the Harmony database and/or logging material items (purchased or donated) into excel.
  • Donations Assistant – sorting donations and organizing space and shelves for women’s and children’s pantries is always needed.

Guiding Star Ministries

  • Donations Assistant – assist with sorting and organizing various donations provided to Guiding Star Ministries.
  • Childcare – assist Moms during nights and weekends with childcare in the house while they are cooking or doing laundry.
  • Life Skills – share your gifts of knowledge by educating mothers in the home with life skills such as financial management, resume building, job search, housekeeping, cooking …..

Mercy Hospice

  • Donation Room Coordinator – assist with sorting, organizing, and cataloging donations so they are ordered to distribute to those in need.

Northeast Family Service Center

  • Pantry Assistant – Volunteer 4-12 hours per week to assist during food pantry hours in restocking and greeting and providing food for neighbors in need.

Southwest Family Service Center

  • Pantry Assistant – Volunteer 4-12 hours per week to assist during food pantry hours in restocking and greeting and providing food for neighbors in need.
  • Job Skills Assistant – Assist those most in need of updating a resume or doing a job search based on their skills and experience.
  • Childcare – Volunteer to watch a small group of children while parents attend parenting workshops on site.

Martha’s Choice Pantry

  • Food Pantry Volunteer – help by packing bags of food for weekly distribution. – Tuesday – Friday from 9 am – 1 pm
  • Food Distribution Volunteer – assist by distributing food to clients during open pantry hours

    Thursdays 9 am-5 pm
    Fridays 10am- 1pm
  • Receiving assistance – Help unloading trucks, must be ok regularly lifting and shelving boxes 15-50lbs.
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 9 am-12 pm / On-call availability a plus
  • Translator – Help with translating for our neighbors in need during distribution hours
