Casa del Carmen Family Service Center Receives Donation of 3,500 Diapers and Other Infant Essentials from Lighthouse Family Center for Those Impacted By the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

Families with infants and young children in North Philadelphia who benefit from Casa Del Carmen Family Service Center, a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS), are receiving ongoing assistance in the face of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic thanks to a recent donation of approximately 3,500 diapers and other infant essentials from Lighthouse Family Center located in Kensington. Members of Lighthouse Family Center recently held a diaper drive to support Casa del Carmen Family Service Center and aid in COVID-19 relief efforts.  All donated items will be distributed to those in need within the local community who have been impacted by the pandemic. Items include diapers, baby wipes, formula, baby food, and other essentials. Saint John’s Hospice Receives Donated Meals From Wawa To Feed Men Experiencing Homelessness In The Face Of The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

From April 13th - May 29th, SJH will receive nearly 700 pre-packaged meals each week donated from Wawa via the Step Up to the Plate Initiative. The meals will be distributed during SJH’s daily lunch service.

Catholic Social Services’ Northeast Family Service Center to Provide Meals to Children Impacted By the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

Children and youth living in Northeast Philadelphia who are in need of healthy and nutritious meals are receiving ongoing assistance in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to a partnership between two agencies of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Catholic Social Services (CSS) and Nutritional Development Services (NDS). The Northeast Family Service Center (NEFSC), a ministry of CSS, will serve as an NDS sponsored feeding site for children. Free meals will be distributed beginning Monday, April 20 and continue every Monday and Wednesday. Monday, April 20, 2020 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Northeast Family Service Center 7340 Jackson Street Philadelphia, PA 19136 Families in need can receive up to three meals per child while supplies last and children do not need to be present in order to receive the meals. Agencies of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Receive Grants from The PHL COVID-19 Fund To Continue Providing Support To Those Impacted By The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

The grants will support on-going efforts to provide emergency assistance and critical support to individuals, seniors, families, and children in need in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Two agencies of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Catholic Housing and Community Services (CHCS) and Catholic Social Services (CSS), are pleased to announce that they have received a combined total of nearly $115,000 in grant allocations from The PHL COVID-19 Fund. These funds will ensure that critical resources remain available for those in our community impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. CHCS, a leading provider of senior living services throughout the region, received a grant in the amount of $40,000. Funds will be used to support the needs of older adults throughout the Greater Philadelphia area with modes of support including food and food related resources, as well as rent, mortgage, and utility bill assistance. Catholic Social Services and Nutritional Development Services will continue to operate essential services and provide additional support to those impacted by the Coronavirus. In doing so it will respect and follow all directives and guidelines provided by government and health department officials. Individuals, families, and children impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and in need of emergency assistance will receive critical support and resources from two agencies of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Catholic Social Services (CSS) and Nutritional Development Services (NDS). Family Service Centers, part of the Community-Based Services Division of CSS, will continue to provide emergency food and diaper assistance to those in need and as well as those impacted by coronavirus. Saint John’s Hospice Hosts Annual Saint John Neumann Boot Drive For Men Experiencing Homelessness

Inspired by Saint John Neumann’s compassion for the poor, this annual initiative is based on the real life example of Saint John Neumann offering those in need the shoes off his feet. Saint John’s Hospice (SJH), a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS), is hosting its annual Saint John Neumann Boot Drive to benefit men experiencing homelessness. SJH, part of the Housing and Homeless Services Division of CSS, provides crucial, life-sustaining services with dignity, respect and compassion to homeless men in Philadelphia. This annual boot drive enables SJH to purchase basic necessities for men in need. Robert, a former SJH resident said, “These new boots are the greatest gift I have ever received. Catholic Social Services’ Casa Del Carmen Family Service Center to Launch “Recupera Su Felicidad (Recover Your Happiness)” Initiative to Address Mental Health Needs

In October 2019, Casa Del Carmen was awarded a $35,000 grant from Thomas Jefferson University and the Philadelphia Collaborative for Health Equity (P-CHE) to fund this initiative. Families and individuals who benefit from Casa Del Carmen Family Service Center, a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS), will receive a boost thanks to a new initiative that will address the health and social needs of the Latino Community living in North Philadelphia. The program, Recupera Su Felicidad (Recover Your Happiness), was made possible through a grant from Thomas Jefferson University and the Philadelphia Collaborative for Health Equity (P-CHE).
